Sixteen participants in the 2014 SWEAT Workshop gathered to discuss and respond to bully culture.
They asked themselves questions, such as “how did the choice between kindness, compassion and intelligence or their antithesis become so complex?”. For my pieces made, I particularly focused on the positive and negative thoughts that may arise after bullying.
In the book we made, I created 3 pieces. The first, “any which way” was inspired by the thinking that it may not matter how someone treats you, as long as you know your worth, the situation can be taken any which way. The type was created, then laser cut into foamcore, and layered to build a soft organic typeset. The other two works are letterpress pieces, one positive (+) thought and one negative (-) thought. The works impose a clear juxtaposition between those positivity/negativity thinkings, a minimal embodiment of the thoughts after bullying, all contained in a forward thinking book.
